Ex-FIFA official shares if Mohamed Salah faces action over social media post
Mohamed Salah took to social media to seemingly hit out at UEFA, after the announcement of the death of Palestinian striker Suleiman al-Obeid.
Al-Obeid was a legendary figure in Palestinian football, but was tragically killed by Israeli forces after an attack on civilians receiving humanitarian aid, and UEFA released a statement expressing their condolences.
The wording of their statement has caused fury on social media, and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has now used his platform to criticise the organisation.
UEFA were criticised for failing to describe the cause of Al-Obeid’s death, while also failing to sanction Israel as they have with other nations involved in conflicts, and the Liverpool winger’s involvement may now put pressure on them.

Salah to avoid UEFA sanction after critical post
Many may fear that Salah will unjustly face UEFA sanctions for his post, as others have been hit in the past.
In 2014, UEFA fined Celtic £16,000 after their fans waved Palestinian flags in a Champions League match against KR Reykjavik, and Salah may have feared similar, or worse punishment.
However, speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, former FIFA referee Keith Hackett dismissed any suggestions that Salah could be sanctioned.
“UEFA have made a heartfelt announcement of the death of this player,” Hackett stated of Al-Obeid.
“Clearly they were aware of his footballing record making reference to his work in the community.
“I do not believe that they will make an issue of the comments attributed to Salah on his social media channels.”

Salah has previously spoken out in support of Palestine
This latest post is not the first time Salah has spoken out about the terrors the Palestinian people are being subjected to, but it is directly calling out UEFA, regardless of the repercussions he may face.
In November 2023, Salah posted a video on X, calling for world leaders to put an end to the conflict in the region, which has reached horrifying levels of brutality in the past two years.
https://x.com/MoSalah/status/1714719241306243584- “There has been too much violence, heartbreak and brutality,” he stated in the video.
- “The people of Gaza need food, water and medical supplies urgently.
- “All lives are sacred and must be protected. The massacres need to stop. Families are being torn apart.
- “I am calling on the world leaders to come together to prevent further slaughter of innocent souls.
- “Humanity must prevail.”
Salah is one of the most successful, and most famous Arab footballers in history, and is one of Liverpool’s greatest-ever players.
Now, he is using his platform to speak out against atrocities, and should he receive punishment from UEFA, there is sure to be fury across the footballing world.
