Newcastle ‘give Liverpool green signal to sign Isak’ after transfer latest
Alexander Isak to Liverpool is still on as Newcastle hand the Reds a huge boost in their pursuit.
Liverpool had all but closed the book on signing Isak after Newcastle rejected the Reds’ opening bid for the striker.
There is no doubt that relations are a little frosty between the two clubs after Liverpool successfully hijacked the Magpies’ deal for Hugo Ekitike. However, it appears that Newcastle could be prepared to extend an olive branch after recent transfer news.

Newcastle to move on to other targets after Benjamin Sesko latest
Newcastle have been involved in a fierce battle for Benjamin Sesko’s signature with fellow Premier League side Manchester United.
The Magpies sent RB Leipzig a bid, which was reportedly accepted by the German club. However, it has been widely reported that Old Trafford is the striker’s preferred destination.
At first glance, this should come as a huge blow to Liverpool’s Isak dreams. But it seems the Merseyside club are not out of the running just yet.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 42 | 27 | 6 |
According to Alex Crook via X on Wednesday (6 August), Newcastle are seemingly aware that Sesko favours Man United and are now prepared to move on to other targets.
The mere fact that Eddie Howe’s side are seeking out alternatives rather than banking on the world-class striker they have at home indicates that they could still be planning to sell Isak this summer.
The Magpies still have several options on the market who could arrive at the club in the coming days. These include Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins.
If Newcastle can get one of these transfers over the line, Liverpool could see Isak light up Anfield next season.
Isak would be the icing on the cake
The Reds’ new signings seem to be settling in well at Anfield. Ekitike, in particular, shone during his Anfield debut against Athletic Club on Monday (4 July).
However, with Darwin Nunez on his way out, the Frenchman cannot be expected to hold down the fort alone. This is where Isak comes in.
Liverpool’s forward options as things stand:
- Gody Gakpo: Left-winger
- Mohammed Salah: Right-winger
- Federico Chiesa: Right-winger
- Ben Doak: Right-winger
- Hugo Ekitike: Centre-forward
- Darwin Nunez: Centre-forward
As an already Premier League-proven player, the Swede will act as a much-needed guide for the young striker. With Ekitike also able to play on the left, having both players up front could devastate opposition.
Therefore, Isak to Liverpool would be the perfect end to an impressive summer window.
