Jamie Carragher ‘gets it all wrong’ with latest Alexander Isak to Liverpool claim

Jamie Carragher is revered in Liverpool, but he has missed the point with his latest comments on Alexander Isak.

The legendary centre-back made 737 appearances, winning the Champions League and several other trophies on Merseyside.

He regularly speaks out on issues with the club, such as owners Fenway Sports Group, transfers and supporter concerns.

However, his take on the Isak transfer is completely wide of the mark.

Carragher hits out amid Liverpool to Isak latest

The Anfield legend hit out at the Reds’ transfer policy amid the latest developments in the Isak saga.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed that the move for the Swedish star does not look planned and was a bit messy.

Speaking on the Overlap Fan Debate (6 August), he said: “It feels a bit messy to me now. For me, when I think of Liverpool, it doesn’t look really planned.

“I don’t think the plan is to buy a striker for £80m and then be looking to buy another one for £120m.”

Edwards plans everything at Liverpool

The way that Liverpool operates under Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes is with a precision-based approach, they do not settle for second best.

More importantly, everything that they do in the market is planned, Isak and Hugo Ekitike will have both been on a list of targets.

Arne Slot is in need of options in the number nine role, something which he does not have at his disposal right now, so it makes perfect sense to sign two strikers.

Darwin Nunez’s impending departure will only increase the demand for an out-and-out striker in L4, and getting both players would be a major statement of intent.

Slot was forced to utilise Luis Diaz in the role for the majority of last season, in an experiment that had limited success, despite his side winning the Premier League title.

Getting two forwards in may well have been part of the long-term plan; it may have just been about whether Isak was willing to force a move, which it appears that he is at the moment.

If not the champions would have been willing to wait until next summer, as they do not seem to settle for second-choice targets.

Carragher usually has his finger on the pulse with all things Liverpool, but in this case, he is wrong, the Reds needed to spend big on more than one attacker, and Edwards and Co. probably planned for that all along.
