Marc Guehi offers rejected – Three defenders Liverpool could sign instead
Liverpool are keen on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, but they may have to find an alternative.
Guehi is entering the final year of his contract, and Liverpool are one of several teams chasing his signature.
However, Liverpool may not be prepared to pay his asking price, despite needing an extra centre-back in the squad, with an offer now rejected for the defender.
There are other options Arne Slot could pursue this summer, and they may be more cost-effective than the England star.
Ronald Araujo
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo fell down the pecking order last season, having previously been a key player for the Blaugrana.
The Uruguayan could leave to help boost Barcelona’s finances, and despite his difficult last year in Spain, has shown that he is capable of performing at a high level.
Araujo would arrive with plenty of experience, as well as the potential to improve, and could be another big-name addition at Anfield, having been linked earlier this summer.

Loic Bade
Sevilla defender Loic Bade is set to leave after their disappointing season, and he has been linked with Premier League side Bournemouth.
Bade is a rising star in La Liga, and the 25-year-old has become a key player for Sevilla in recent seasons, attracting interest from elsewhere.
- Bade is a Europa League winner and has also made his senior debut for France.
- Sevilla finished 17th in La Liga last season, and may need to sell to boost their financial position.
Available for around £25 million (Fussball Transfers), Bade would be a shrewd addition if Liverpool were to swoop in and steal him from under Bournemouth’s noses, and could initially be eased in as a rotation option before eventually becoming a regular.
Jeremy Jacquet
Arsenal and Liverpool have now both been linked with Stade Rennais defender Jeremy Jacquet (TBR Football), who is one of the best young prospects in France.
The 20-year-old is still inexperienced, having made just 12 senior appearances, but he could be an excellent long-term option to go with Liverpool’s current defenders.
Stat | Jacquet |
Appearances | 36 |
Goals | 2 |
Assists | 3 |
The centre-back can also play on the right, and he could be given time as a backup initially, with Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate ahead of him.
In the long run, Guehi could also join and play alongside Jacquet, and the Frenchman could end up being the eventual successor to Van Dijk.
Liverpool would have to beat the other clubs interested in the youngster to his signature, but this would be another statement of intent in this summer window.
