Will Wright signs – Three Liverpool gems to look out for next season

Liverpool have completed the signing of 17-year-old striker Will Wright on a three-year deal.

Wright has joined the Reds from League Two side Salford, where he broke into the first team during the 2024/25 season.

The youngster debuted in November 2024, featuring in an EFL Trophy tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers Under-21s.

He went on to make three more appearances for Salford before linking up with Rob Page’s Liverpool U21s squad last week, with the Reds confirming the transfer on Monday (4 August).

Ngumoha could feature in the first team this season

Ngumoha left supporters stunned after a fine performance in Liverpool’s 3-1 friendly win over Preston (13 July), before scoring in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Yokohama F. Marinos (30 July).

Among a competitive squad that is only getting better during the summer transfer window, the 16-year-old has done well to make the first team.

The former Chelsea academy star has been ruthless during preseason and has even caused first-team defenders at Liverpool trouble in training.

With Luis Diaz departing the Reds this summer, Ngumoha could have opportunities to make the first team, though Arne Slot will need to manage his minutes.

Nyoni could follow in the footsteps of Steven Gerrard

Nyoni is one of the hottest prospects in the Reds’ academy set-up right now.

The central midfielder has an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool hero Steven Gerrard.

The 18-year-old was signed from Leicester City in 2023 and has proved to be a brilliant investment.

Nyoni has been handed a shot to impress during pre-season, and he has taken it with open arms. He now looks ready to be part of the first-team squad.

After bagging a goal against Yokoma F. Marinos, much like Ngumoha, he could be around the first team next season, but Slot will again have to manage his gametime.

Liverpool will dismiss Doak approaches

Doak has been linked with a move to Merseyside rivals Everton this summer.

His performances on loan at Middlesbrough last season caught the eye, and his progress in preseason with the Reds will no doubt mean that his future at Anfield isn’t in doubt.

The 19-year-old has the ability and skill to move past defenders with ease, and with Mohammed Salah ageing and Diaz leaving, Slot could have more reason to rely on the youngster in the years to come.
