Liverpool set for multi-million boost as Morton completes medical at Lyon
Tyler Morton has reportedly completed his medical at Lyon ahead of a move from Liverpool.
The midfielder was keen on an Anfield exit this summer, after failing to make even one Premier League appearance under Arne Slot last season.
West Ham had looked to be interested in striking a double-deal that would see both Morton and Harvey Elliott move to the London Stadium, but the Hammers’ interest in the former has cooled.
Instead, the midfielder is set to join Ligue 1 club Lyon, who retained their place in France’s top division for this season after a successful appeal overturned a decision that would have seen them relegated over financial issues.

Liverpool set for Morton cash injection
Morton had looked set for a similar pathway to that of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Bradley when the youngster broke through into Jurgen Klopp’s team in 2021.
But the midfielder instead spent two years out on loan, first with Blackburn Rovers, before a hugely positive 2023/24 campaign at Hull City placed him on the radar of clubs throughout Europe.
The arrival of Slot saw the 22-year-old’s career hit a stumbling block, however, with Morton not loaned out and largely left out of the Dutchman’s squad last season.

Appearances | 39 |
Goals | 3 |

And a mid-season shoulder injury would not help matters, as the Englishman finished the season with just five senior appearances.
That has prompted a desire to leave Liverpool this summer for Morton, and Lyon looks to be his next destination.
According to Alex Crook (4 August), the Reds academy product has completed his medical in France ahead of confirmation of a deal worth around £15million.
Morton money will aid Liverpool’s summer spree
Liverpool are hoping to offset a large chunk of their summer expenditure through sales.
The Reds have already gathered around £130m from the sales of Luis Diaz, Jarell Quansah, Nat Phillips, and Caoimhin Kelleher, and Morton’s exit will return another chunk to the coffers.
Liverpool’s expenditure this summer, should they sign Alexander Isak, will exceed £300m, but the money received through sales should see them comfortably compliant with the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
