Liverpool fans will love what Shearer has had to say about Isak exiting Newcastle
Alexander Isak continues to be heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.
The Swedish international is already one of the best players in world football and would be a treat to watch on a regular basis for those inside Anfield.
Whilst Newcastle understandably won’t want to lose their talisman, Liverpool could be forced into partaking in some underhanded tactics in order to secure the striker’s signature.
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer has now had his say on the proposed move, with his stance being one that Liverpool supporters will welcome.

‘Off you go,‘ says Shearer regarding Isak
With Liverpool reportedly having a £110million bid rejected for Isak, any deal for the 25-year-old is set to be an expensive one.
Premier League goals scored by Isak:
- 23 goals in 34 appearances – 2024/25 season
- 21 goals in 30 appearances – 2023/24 season
- 10 goals in 22 appearances – 2022/23 season
Shearer had his say on the ongoing transfer saga on the podcast The Rest Is Football (4 August), suggesting Newcastle should cash in now if the player wants to leave – which certainly looks like the case.
“No, I’m not angry at all towards him,” Shearer said.
“I understand how football works, I know what happens in and around the game. I probably understand his mentality. Do I like it? Do I understand it? Probably two different things.
“But I know what football is about and I know how it works, and obviously Liverpool have been into him or his agent.
“I just thought it might have happened next year and if it really is impossible for Eddie to turn him around and he says no, and it sounds like that is the case, I want him to be out now, you get your big money for him, whoever’s prepared to pay that and you get other people in, hopefully beforehand, and then you move on.
“As I said, no individual is bigger than any football club, and if he doesn’t want to be there, fine, get what you can and get him out and say thanks very much for the memories, off you go.”
Liverpool fans know all too well about the pain of losing key players, with Trent Alexander-Arnold departing for Real Madrid recently.
The Reds must be prepared to be patient if they want to secure a deal, with Newcastle unlikely to sanction a sale until a replacement has been identified and brought in.
Hugo Ekitike could find himself on Liverpool bench next season
Despite only just joining this summer for a mammoth £69million plus add-ons, Ekitike could find himself being a backup option behind Isak if Liverpool can secure a deal.
How Arne Slot will manage to fit the abundance of attacking talents in his team next season so far remains to be seen, particularly if Isak were to also join.
Ekitike likely did not want to join to sit on the bench, potentially causing issues that could derail a possible Liverpool title charge next season.
Finding a way to fit both Ekitike and Isak in the same team may not be possible, or if it is, it may compromise the balance Liverpool had last season, as they won the Premier League.
If Liverpool cannot sign Isak, they may be better off bringing a cheaper alternative to L4, who would be happy to be a backup option behind Ekitike.
Whilst having all these talented players looks like a positive thing on paper for Slot, implementing them all effectively could prove to be challenging next season.
