When Liverpool plan to resume Alexander Isak talks with Newcastle

Liverpool’s pursuit of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak does not seem to be over.

The Reds’ initial bid for Isak, believed to be in the region of £110million, was rejected by Newcastle (August 1).

Liverpool are reportedly refusing to bid again for the Swedish star after the approach was knocked back, but that does not tell the full story.

That may well be a bluff, as Michael Edwards has previously withdrawn from deals for Virgil van Dijk and Alisson before signing them, and may have passed the trick down to Richard Hughes.

Liverpool to revive Isak talks with Newcastle

Isak could still end up at Liverpool as there is likely to be plenty of twists and turns in the saga.

A report from Sky Sports journalist Sacha Tavolieri (2 August) claims that the L4 outfit were never out of the race for the Swede’s signature despite the reports of them pulling out.

It states that Isak only wants to move to the Premier League champions, and talks have been scheduled for early next week.

Isak would complete magnificent summer for Liverpool

It has already been a brilliant summer for the Reds, Fenway Sports Group have backed Arne Slot to retain his crown to the hilt ahead of the new campaign.

The owners have spent near the £240m mark already, and dropping another £100m plus on Isak would be the cherry on the top.

The likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have already come through the doors on Merseyside, but the arrival of the best striker in the world would take them to another level entirely.

If they signed the ex-Borussia Dortmund man, it would make them favourites for the top-flight by a considerable margin and arguably the Champions League as well.

The opportunity to sign a player like that does not come about too often, so they must take advantage while the chance is there and strengthen the squad even further.

There is an argument that they need another centre-back and a midfielder, but if you can get Isak, you put everything else on the back burner until next summer.
