Isak will never move to Anfield as Liverpool blow transfer opportunity
Liverpool could potentially have made a massive mistake in their bid to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.
It looked like the Reds were in the driving seat, with Isak wanting to move to Anfield.
The Swede’s contract at Newcastle runs until 2028, and he may be staying in Tyneside for a few more years, with the prospect of a move to Merseyside in danger.

Liverpool accused of stringing Isak along after lowball transfer offer
Newcastle have been baffled by Liverpool’s £110million offer for Isak, according to Craig Hope.
The Daily Mail journalist revealed on X (1 August) that the Reds are believed to have “strung along” the 25-year-old striker and made a lowball bid to “save face”, but the Magpies are sympathetic to the centre-forward’s situation as they believe he’s been poorly advised.
It’s been claimed that the Reds have “bottled” a potential deal for the Swedish centre-forward, with a second offer not expected from Anfield.
Competition (2024/25) | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 34 | 23 | 6 |
FA Cup | 2 | 1 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 6 | 3 | 0 |
Liverpool seem to have hung Isak out to dry, which could potentially affect any new approach from Merseyside.
Arne Slot was given Hugo Ekitike this summer, with the Reds paying £79m to sign the Frenchman from Eintracht Frankfurt.
If the Newcastle star ends up staying at St James’ Park this summer, he may never want to listen to offers from the Reds again.
Luis Diaz transfer doesn’t make sense if Isak is not signed
Liverpool sold Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich for a significant sum, which many fans thought would be reinvested into the squad.
Harvey Elliott and Darwin Nunez are other candidates to depart the Reds, and their sales should also bring in more funds for Richard Hughes.
It doesn’t make sense to sell a key player like Diaz and then not sign an adequate replacement for him, which Isak clearly would be.
The Swedish attacker is available right now, and the Merseyside outfit should arguably do everything in their power to get a deal over the line.
