How Man United are about to stop Liverpool from signing Alexander Isak
Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak has heated up over recent weeks.
Despite the Reds’ heavy spending so far this summer, Arne Slot seems prepared to splash the cash once again.
Isak has heavily impressed since his move to Newcastle in 2022 and has established himself as one of the world’s best strikers.
As a result, Liverpool placed a bid for Isak, but this has since been rebuffed by the Magpies.
However, as more details of this move come to light, it appears Manchester United could be behind the Reds’ failed offer.

Newcastle want a replacement before Isak sale
In recent years, Newcastle have become a force in the Premier League.
Under Eddie Howe, the northern club have qualified for the UEFA Champions League in two of the last three campaigns and beat Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup last season.
As a result, Newcastle are unwilling to be bullied into selling Isak, as his departure could threaten the progress they have made.
- Isak has been at Newcastle since 2022
- The Swede netted in Newcastle’s 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup final
- Isak has been pushing for a move away from Newcastle this summer
According to The Telegraph (1 August), Howe at least wants a replacement first, who is of similar quality to the Swede.
The report states that the Magpies have made a move for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, but face competition from Man United, who are the favourites to sign the Slovenian international.
Therefore, if the Red Devils do sign Sesko, it would no doubt jeopardise Liverpool’s hopes of signing Isak.
The amount of quality strikers available on the market is limited, and Newcastle may rebuff any offer for Isak if they miss out on Sesko to United.

Slot may have to move on from Isak
While Isak would no doubt be a great signing for Liverpool, Slot may simply have to move on from the striker.
Newcastle’s demands for a sale are massive, and this is likely to get more extreme as the end of the window edges closer.

Goals | 62 |
Assists | 11 |
While Isak could increase pressure on the Magpies to force a sale, this is risky and may not actually work.
There are alternatives out there for Slot, and the Dutchman may have to work on these if he wants to sign a striker before the window’s end.
