A closer look at Alexander Isak’s Newcastle contract following Liverpool’s opening offer

Liverpool could end up paying a sizable wage to Alexander Isak, judging by his current contract at Newcastle.

Isak is the latest target on the Reds’ long list this summer after announcing the arrival of Hugo Ekitike.

The Merseyside club appear determined to sign Isak, given that Darwin Nunez looks to be on his way out. As a result, Liverpool News has taken a closer look at Isak’s Newcastle contract.

Isak to earn over £18million by 2028

As reported by David Ornstein via X on Friday (1 August), Newcastle have rejected an official bid from Liverpool for Isak.

The Magpies have suggested a new deal for the striker with a 2026 release clause. But while his teammates are pushing him to remain, Isak wants the move to Anfield.

The 25-year-old signed at St James Park on 26 August 2022 on a contract which will run until 30 June 2028. According to Capology (1 August), Isak receives £120,000 per week, which amounts to £6,240,000 yearly.

If the striker were to continue at Newcastle on the same contract until its expiration date, he would receive £18,720,000 in wages. However, this amount could increase if Newcastle agrees a new contract with the Swede.

Isak’s Newcastle contract broken down

It has been well documented that Isak is determined to arrive at Anfield this summer. As a result, there is a possibility that he has agreed to lower his wages at the club.

Despite this, it is more likely that the Reds could pay a similar or even greater fee upon his arrival. There have even been reports that Isak could earn up to £250,000 per week.

While the initial amount may seem daunting to fans, his current contract at Newcastle does not even touch Mohammed Salah, who earns £20,800,000 annually at Liverpool.

Isak would be an excellent signing

There will always be the concern of injuries when deciding to sign Isak. However, the arrival of Ekitike makes this less of an issue and allows the Reds to go all in.

He would be an excellent signing for the Merseyside club. As well as being a dynamic goalscorer, Isak is known for bringing his teammates into the game.

That is precisely the profile of striker Liverpool need. One who, instead of welcoming personal glory, thrives on working for the collective.

But the logistics of integrating him into the squad will come later. For now, Liverpool must focus on completing the transfer this summer.
