Nunez finally gone – Three stars who could leave Liverpool before deadline

Liverpool are expected to be active in the transfer market despite already adding several players to their squad.

Arne Slot has brought in the likes of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike to strengthen his squad as they attempt to defend the Premier League title.

However, with Liverpool also lining up a move for Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, they may need to sell assets to fund the transfer.

Here, Liverpool News looks at three Anfield stars who could depart before the 1 September deadline.

Darwin Nunez

Nunez is one of the most polarising figures in Liverpool history, some supporters love him because of his work rate, but others cannot stand him due to his poor finishing.

However, his time with the Reds seems to be coming to an end, and it is a very plausible outcome that he is sold this summer.

The Uruguayan forward moved to Anfield from Benfica in the summer of 2022 but failed to hit the heights that were expected of him.

He has notched just 40 goals and 26 assists in 143 matches for the Merseysiders, which is not enough considering the £64m fee that was spent on him.

He has been linked with moves to Napoli and Saudi Arabia, and it would not be a surprise if Slot’s side cashed in on the 26-year-old.

Federico Chiesa

Chiesa has struggled to feature for Liverpool since his £12.5m move from Juventus last summer.

He came to Merseyside with a lack of pre-season under his belt after being frozen out by the Italian giants and could not regain his fitness for most of the campaign.

He made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions in his debut season in L4, and it may be his only one in English football.

He was constantly linked with a return to Italy in the winter transfer window, and the likes of Napoli, Roma and AC Milan could revive their interest before the deadline.

Harvey Elliott

Liverpool supporters love Elliott because he is one of them, living the dream, playing for the club that he supported as a boy.

However, he could not force his way into Slot’s plans last season, featuring just 18 times in the league title-winning campaign for a total of 360 minutes.

He has admitted that he could leave in order to secure regular first-team football to try and get into the England squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The likes of West Ham, Aston Villa and Tottenham have been touted as potential destinations for the 22-year-old, who starred at the Under-21 European Championships this summer.
