Will Wright won’t be in Arne Slot’s Liverpool plans despite deal – here’s why

Will Wright looks set to become Liverpool’s latest signing in what has been a busy summer to date.

Arne Slot has not been afraid to splash the cash this summer, with elite stars such as Florian Wirtz moving to Anfield

Liverpool remained linked with Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, in what would no doubt be a massive statement from the Reds if completed.

On top of this, the Dutchman is also looking to improve the academy side of things with Wright now closing in on a move to the Reds

The 17-year-old is believed to have high potential. However, he is not set to be in Slot’s plans just yet.

Liverpool plan to use Wright in Under 21s squad

Liverpool have had multiple great players come through their academy in recent years.

The Reds have also developed a habit of signing other clubs’ upcoming talents and developing them, with Harvey Elliott being a prime example.

Now, a fee has been agreed with Salford to sign Wright, beating Arsenal to his signature.

Liverpool’s major signings so far this summer Fee
Jeremie Frimpong£30m
Giorgi Mamardashvili£29m
Armin Pecsi£1.5m
Florian Wirtz£166m
Milos Kerkez£40m
Freddie WoodmanFree
Hugo Ekitike£79m
Liverpool have brought in numerous players throughout the transfer window

The deal is worth around £200k plus add-ons, with the young striker already making four first-team appearances for the League Two outfit.

Now, The Secret Scout has confirmed via X (29 July) that Wright will go into the Under 21s squad, with Liverpool’s academy in need of a striker.

Slot needs to continue to prioritise youth players

While the summer spending spree has no doubt been exciting for the Anfield faithful, Slot has to ensure it does not affect the Reds’ upcoming players.

Many academy stars could find themselves facing a tougher time getting chances in the first-team, especially the attackers.

Given the Merseyside club’s history in developing players, it would be a massive error in judgement to stop going down this path.

Hopefully, the impending signing of Wright proves that Slot is still keen to look towards the long-term future of his squad.
