Arsenal snubbed by Wright

Arsenal were beaten by the Reds in the race for Wright’s signature, according to The Athletic.

The news outlet reports (29 July) that the Gunners were unable to agree on personal terms with the “prolific” 17-year-old, with a move to Anfield now set.

It’s been claimed that while the North London outfit had an agreement with Salford, personal terms became an issue for them.

The Englishman wanted to stay in the North West, which arguably gave the Merseyside outfit an edge over their rivals to complete a deal for £200k plus add-ons.

Wright has impressive goal tally for Salford

Wright has scored over 50 goals for Salford across age groups last season.

The 17-year-old has been a talisman at youth level and the League Two outfit’s B team.

After impressing with the Under-18s, Under-21 and reserve competitions, the Ammies gave the young striker his first-team debut in January against Manchester City in the 8-0 FA Cup defeat.

The English centre-forward went on to make two more appearances for the senior team in the league as Salford finished eighth.

Liverpool plans for Wright

After completing his transfer to Liverpool, Wright will join the Under-21 team, who Rob Page manages.

The 6’3″ striker’s size and mobility make him unique for his age group, and it will be interesting to see how he does in Kirkby.

Hugo Ekitike signed at Anfield recently and has a similar build, and he may be a reference for the Salford youngster to follow.
