Isak ready to take dream shirt number at Liverpool amid Anfield exit latest

Liverpool are keen on a big-money move for Alexander Isak, and a deal could be in the works.

Isak has expressed a desire to leave Newcastle to join the Reds, in what would be a huge statement of intent.

Liverpool are set for major changes in their front line, with several new additions and several established players leaving.

Luis Diaz has now agreed to join Bayern Munich, and another attacker is likely to follow him out of Anfield.

Federico Chiesa to leave Liverpool

Federico Chiesa has struggled for game time since joining from Juventus last summer, but the possibility of the Italian staying was recently mooted.

Chiesa could provide experienced, versatile depth, and with the likes of Diaz, Darwin Nunez and possibly Harvey Elliott leaving, extra options would have been welcomed.

However, Fabrizio Romano has now reported (28 July) that Chiesa will depart Liverpool in search of more game time and could return to Serie A.

Chiesa scored two goals in 14 appearances for Liverpool, and his departure will allow Isak to take his favoured shirt number.

Isak could replace Chiesa as Liverpool’s number 14

Isak wears the number 14 shirt at Newcastle, and with Chiesa leaving, he could continue with the same squad number on what would be a best-selling shirt at Liverpool.

The striker has previously hinted that his idol is former Arsenal attacker Thierry Henry, who wore the number 14 shirt during his time in North London.

While this did not sway him from his desire to join Liverpool, it does indicate what Isak’s squad number of choice will be at Anfield if he does complete the move.

The number 14 shirt has previously been worn by legendary striker Robbie Fowler, attacker Ian Rush, captain Jordan Henderson and icon Xabi Alonso.

If Isak joins and takes this shirt, he can make even more history in it, as potentially Liverpool’s record signing, with the potential to become one of their greatest goal scorers in recent history.

The Sweden star has been a standout performer at Newcastle, and his arrival could help Liverpool win back-to-back Premier League titles for the first time.
