Liverpool ‘done deal’ to open door for Alexander Isak’s record move

Liverpool are set to launch a sensational bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

The Swede has already informed the Magpies of his desire to leave the club, with Liverpool ready to smash the Premier League transfer record to sign the striker.

The Reds have already spent huge money this summer, after signing Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, as they prepare for the defence of their Premier League title.

Ekitike had been a target of Newcastle, but the Frenchman wasted no time in turning his attentions once Liverpool had made their interest known.

Diaz in advanced talks for exit

In both financial and squad-building terms, it seemed unlikely that Liverpool would embark on such a spending spree without letting anyone leave.

Jarell Quansah and Caoimhin Kelleher have already left the club, as well as Trent Alexander-Arnold – who departed at the end of his contract.

And a big sale now looks set to follow, with Bayern Munich’s move to sign Luis Diaz considered a “done deal”, according to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (27 July).

The Bundesliga champions failed with an initial bid for the winger but have now returned with a second offer worth around £69million.

The final details are now being discussed for Diaz, who has already agreed terms with Bayern after making his desire to leave Liverpool clear.

The Reds are also keen on selling Darwin Nunez this summer, but Napoli have reportedly withdrawn their interest after struggling to reach Liverpool’s asking price.

Isak move can go ahead

It would not be a surprise to see Liverpool’s opening bid for Isak arrive shortly after Diaz’s exit is confirmed.

The Colombian’s departure will both give decision-makers at Anfield the financial license to approach Newcastle, and give Arne Slot the appropriate space within his squad.

Isak is among the world’s best

If a deal can be found for Isak, Liverpool’s summer spending will surge past £300m in what is a clear signal of intent from owners FSG.

And that is not to mention the other targets still required by Slot, with a centre-back certainly needing to arrive before the end of the window.

But for now, Isak’s arrival would be more than enough to send Liverpool fans to a dreamland-turned reality.
