Young agrees terms with new club after rejecting Liverpool contract offer
Ranel Young has joined a new club after leaving Liverpool.
The forward was considered one of the more promising youngsters in Liverpool’s academy after being involved with the first team twice last season.
Young was on the bench for Liverpool’s 3-2 victory against Brighton in the Premier League as well as for the Reds’ shock 1-0 defeat to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.
However, the 19-year-old has now moved on from Anfield without making a senior appearance for the Reds.

Young joins second-tier Serbian club FK Usce
As reported by English Players Abroad via X (25 July), Young has signed for Serbian second-tier club FK Usce after turning down a contract offer from Liverpool.
While the Huddersfield-born winger made the bench twice last season, he didn’t make it onto the pitch on either occasion. As a result, more game time could be a driving factor behind his decision to leave.
Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
2024/25 | 26 | 5 | 3 |
Young’s choice is one that most would consider unusual, but there is no doubt Liverpool fans will wish the forward well on his next adventure.
Young could still see his career take off
Unsurprisingly, many will be quick to write off Young’s development now that he will be playing in the Serbian second tier.
After making an impression on Slot, there is reason to suggest that his career path could have been similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold. The fullback climbed through the academy ranks before making his debut in a 2-1 win over Tottenham in the League Cup.
However, Young’s career trajectory bears a striking resemblance to Sunderland’s Romaine Mundle. Indeed, the Tottenham academy product left the club in 2024 when he signed a four-year contract with Belgian side Standard Liege.
Mundle will now play in the English top-flight with Sunderland after their Championship play-off final victory against Sheffield United.
As a result, Young could use his time in Serbia to develop his craft before returning to England or another club in the top five leagues.
With the addition of several recruits this summer, it would have been difficult for him to become a consistent starter for Slot. Therefore, this could be a good move for Young to bolster his career.
