LaLiga directors to be on phone to Liverpool after Alisson decision – Exclusive
Liverpool News presents the exclusive opinion of AS journalist Joe Brennan.
Alisson helped Liverpool to their second Premier League title in six years under Arne Slot last season.
The Brazil international’s addition at the Reds has been influential, forming part of their successful spine in recent seasons.
Alisson’s contract at Anfield runs until 2027, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him continue in between the sticks for the Merseyside outfit, but that may have an impact on Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Mamardashvili may not want to be backup to Alisson as LaLiga directors should enquire about situation
LaLiga presidents should be enquiring about Mamardashvili’s situation at Liverpool this summer, Joe Brennan says.
The AS journalist speculates that the Georgia international could potentially be a target for top-end teams in Spain if he becomes available.
Brennan feels that if Alisson remains number one at Anfield ahead of next season, the former Valencia shot-stopper may not be comfortable sitting on the bench.
Competiton | Appearances | Goals conceded | Clean sheets |
LaLiga | 34 | 48 | 8 |
Speaking to Liverpool News, the journalist said: “Personally, I haven’t heard anything, but that’s absolutely not to say that he won’t be a target for many top-end LaLiga clubs should the move become available. If Slot wants to keep Alisson as his number one next season, then it’s hard to see Mamardashvili sitting comfortably on the bench, given his talent.
“If I were a LaLiga sporting director, I’d certainly be picking up the phone to ask my Liverpool opposites what’s going on. Valencia have got Julen on loan from Athletic, which pretty much rules out a return there.”

Slot has massive decision to make at Liverpool with Alisson and Mamardashvili
Galatasaray have shown interest in Alisson in the ongoing transfer window, but the goalkeeper turned down an approach from the Turkish outfit.
The Brazilian shot-stopper arguably still has a few years left at the top of the game, and it would make sense for Slot to trust him for the foreseeable future.
Mamardashvili spent last season at Valencia, having already agreed to join Liverpool in the summer of 2023, and he’s arguably too good to be number two at Anfield.
The Dutch manager has a significant decision to make regarding the goalkeeping position, and if Alisson is the first-choice shot-stopper, a loan transfer should be considered for the Georgian star.
With the possibility of the situation getting tense at Anfield if the 24-year-old becomes unsettled in Merseyside due to a lack of game time, a contingency plan should be considered.
