How much money Liverpool could save as Bayern Munich prepare Diaz bid

Bayern Munich are stepping up their pursuit of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.

The Bundesliga champions are determined to sign a wide forward this summer and have targeted Diaz after losing out to Liverpool in their pursuit of Florian Wirtz.

Vincent Kompany’s side are yet to make any significant signings this summer, while the long-term injury sustained by Jamal Musiala in the Club World Cup has hastened the Bavarians’ approach.

Liverpool have no intention of selling Diaz and have already rejected Bayern’s first bid, but are set to have their resolve tested as the German club are ready to approach the Reds again.

Bayern preparing second bid for Diaz

As reported by Alex Crook (25 July), Bayern are ready to improve on their initial £61million bid for Diaz as they continue to push for the Colombia international.

The 28-year-old played an integral part in the Reds’ title-winning season and recorded his best personal return for the Reds under Arne Slot.

Liverpool may still consider selling Diaz if the offer is substantial enough, as it would free up funds for Slot to reinvest in signing Alexander Isak.

The former Porto winger has less than two years left on his current contract, earning him £55,000-a-week according to Capology (25 July).

Therefore, if the Merseyside club agree to sell their star man by the end of the transfer window, they would save a minimum of £5.2million on his wages.

All eyes are now back on Bayern to see how much they are willing to fork out on Diaz.

Cracks are starting to appear in Liverpool’s transfer window

Should the Reds decide to sell Diaz this summer, they will receive a substantial amount of money for the Colombian, which they will look to reinvest in a replacement.

However, as evidenced by Bayern’s apparent difficulties, the market for top-tier wide forwards is not plentiful, meaning Slot may struggle to find a like-for-like successor.

Liverpool are also in desperate need of at least one centre-back this summer, and may still need another forward to assist Hugo Ekitike if Darwin Nunez leaves as expected.

Cracks are starting to appear amid all the excitement over the Premier League champions’ transfer window, which the Liverpool faithful will hope are resolved sooner rather than later.
