Marc Guehi decision made amid Ibrahima Konate update at Liverpool

Liverpool may have a tricky task in retaining their Premier League title, but they are making serious moves to do just that.

Man City were the last club to manage that feat in 2022/23, with Chelsea and Man United the other teams to do so.

Florian Wirtz is a club record signing for Liverpool and arrived as one of the brightest prospects in world football.

Now, the Reds have made a key decision on Ibrahima Konate, which could affect their pursuit of Marc Guehi.

Liverpool offer proposal to Konate

Liverpool were reportedly set to table a £40million bid for Guehi in a take it or leave it offer to Crystal Palace.

However, such a deal is yet to come to fruition, and the England international has been taking part in the Eagles’ pre-season.

The Reds’ interest in the centre back looked set to have a knock-on effect for Konate, who has been Virgil van Dijk’s regular partner.

Guehi betters Konate in several key statistics last season, although the Frenchman has been ever so commanding in an aerial duel.

Now, Konate has received a new offer from the Merseyside club, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna (23 July).

He reports that a new and improved proposal has been sent to the 26-year-old, which he must now decide on.

Guehi deal unlikely after Konate and Liverpool latest

Seeing as Koante has now been offered a fresh deal at Anfield, a move for Guehi now feels incredibly unlikely.

The Frenchman is too good a player to be sitting on the bench, and by making him an offer, Liverpool have effectively put confidence in him.

Furthermore, Palace would surely want more than the reported £40million on the table for one of their prized assets.

Liverpool just completed a significant deal for Hugo Ekitike, and with that money spent, perhaps they have had to cool their interest in Guehi.

Arne Slot’s side have spent north of £200million already this summer and will have to consider their outgoings.

However, if they sell Luis Diaz, then they could maybe make room for another notable deal.
