How much Liverpool could spend on Isak package after transfer bombshell

Alexander Isak has now revealed his desire to leave Newcastle United, and Liverpool are interested in signing the Swede.

Isak has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Premier League at Newcastle. Therefore, any transfer will be an expensive one.

Liverpool have already spent heavily this summer, with Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike arriving as blockbuster signings, but the Reds could remarkably be set to add to this.

If they do pull off the signing of the Newcastle attacker, it will likely be for a British record fee, but Liverpool can accommodate him financially.

Isak could cost Liverpool over £220million

Arne Slot could be handed a huge gift if FSG manage to bring Isak to Anfield, but it will come at a huge cost.

The Daily Mail (July 24) has reported that Newcastle would only likely accept an offer in the region of £150million, which would smash the British record fee that Liverpool already paid this summer for Wirtz.

Isak is on a base wage of £120,000 per week at Newcastle, which works out at around £6.2m per year.

While this would be an incredibly affordable wage for Liverpool, it appears likely that Isak would want a lot more wherever he goes, with talkSPORT recently reporting that he desires a £300k-per-week salary.

This works out at around £15.6m per year, and a five-year deal would see Liverpool commit a minimum of £78m to his wages alone.

This, therefore, means a total package for Isak would cost £228m at the minimum, but it does appear that Liverpool can afford him.

Liverpool’s past frugality gives them spending power now

Liverpool’s spending this summer makes a huge change from last year, when the only arrival for a fee was Federico Chiesa.

Saving up in the last few windows, as well as smart selling, has created extra room for Liverpool to spend now, and this will lead to a long-term benefit.

Harvey Elliott, Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez could still leave for huge fees, and this would go some way to funding the business conducted this summer.

Football finance reporter David Powell has reported (24 July) that Liverpool were in a PSR positive by over £50m last year, and can freely spend without any trouble regarding the regulations.

Frugality under Jurgen Klopp meant that Liverpool finished third in his final season, but the Reds have since won the Premier League with minimal investment, and can now build on this success by bringing in the best players on the market.
