Liverpool news round-up: Napoli update as Slot lines up Chiesa replacement

Arne Slot is prepared to use the summer market to guarantee new heights for Liverpool next season.

The Dutchman will be giving this summer transfer window his stamp of approval after welcoming several new players.

Hugo Ekitike will be the latest to land in Merseyside after Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong were signed from Bayer Leverkusen, and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.

But Liverpool are far from done as they look to add a couple more additions in time for the forthcoming season.

Here, Liverpool News has rounded up the latest stories regarding the Reds, with more transfer business still expected this summer.

Liverpool eye Malick Fofana as Federico Chiesa replacement

Federico Chiesa is not part of the squad for Liverpool’s pre-season tour of the Far East.

While this has been chalked down to fitness issues, it has only added to speculation that the Italian will leave the Reds this summer. With less than a month to go until the Premier League begins, it seems that Slot has identified his replacement.

Chiesa made 14 appearances for Liverpool last season

Liverpool remain on standby for Lyon winger Malick Fofana.

The 20-year-old contributed to 17 goals in 41 appearances last season and is wanted by several clubs this summer. As a result, Liverpool will need to up their game to ensure he lands at Anfield.

Luca Stephenson poised for new Liverpool deal

Luca Stephenson has climbed through the academy ranks and has transformed into one of the most promising talents of his age group.

As such, the Reds rate the young star highly and are set to reward his impressive progress over the years.

Stephenson is set to sign a new contract with Liverpool before moving on loan again.

It is understood that the Merseyside club will monitor the 21-year-old for another season before deciding the next steps.

Chiesa set for Napoli switch

With Chiesa expected to leave Liverpool, Napoli has emerged as a tempting option for the player.

It is understood that the next few days will be decisive as the Italian giants decide whether to move for the winger.

Chiesa’s transfer to Liverpool has failed to live up to expectations. The forward arrived at Anfield with a bounce in his step, only to plant his feet firmly on the ground once the season progressed.

Several injuries and coaching decisions saw him start only four times for Slot last season, and more gametime could be driving his decision to leave. But with a couple more forward signings expected before the window closes, the loss of Chiesa could end up being a minor one for Liverpool.
