Chiesa ‘tempted by Napoli’ amid latest Liverpool exit developments

Federico Chiesa could be set to end his Liverpool nightmare this summer.

The Italian winger joined the Reds last summer in a £12.5million deal but struggled to get into the team at Anfield.

Arne Slot did not trust the 27-year-old to handle significant game time after he suffered from fitness issues consistently.

Chiesa featured just 14 times across all competitions for a total of 466 minutes.

Chiesa could return to Italy amid Liverpool snub

Slot did not select Chiesa for Liverpool’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Japan, with a slight fitness issue meaning that he will stay on Merseyside.

He has constantly been linked with a return to Italy, and the rumour mill will only increase after that development.

La Gazetta Dello Sport has reported in its print edition (page 11, 22 July) that a switch to Napoli is tempting Chiesa as he looks to get back into the national team.

It states that the next few days will be decisive as the Serie A champions make their final choice on whether to move for the Reds star.

Liverpool needs to move on from Chiesa

Chiesa was once regarded as a £100million player at his peak, but his career has stagnated due to multiple brutal injuries.

It was a gamble that was worth taking, as it was such a small fee for a player who can produce the level of performance that he can on his day.

However, it has not worked, and both parties should move on from each other this summer, as it is clear that he will not be able to turn around his fortunes in L4.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke told Liverpool News that he believes that the former Fiorentina man will be moved on if a suitable offer arrives, and it is hard to disagree with that viewpoint.

The Reds are bringing in Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, with a medical on the cards in the coming days, and they are also expected to sign another attacker, which would relegate Chiesa even further down the pecking order.

Being left out of the tour is just the latest in a long line of setbacks, and it seems like there is no way back.
