‘FSG to laugh at PIF’ as Isak to Liverpool now back on cards with agent insulted

Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak seems to have taken yet another twist.

Despite Liverpool closing in on an agreement to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt, the Reds have not given up hope of securing Isak’s signature as well.

Selling notable players like Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz could help raise funds to ensure both Isak and Ekitike arrive in Merseyside over the summer.

With Liverpool already appearing to have beaten Newcastle to Ekitike’s signature, the champions could yet further upset the Geordies and PIF if they were to steal their main man.

Isak unsettled at Newcastle after Liverpool links

Alan Pardew previously stated that he believes the rumours surrounding Isak may turn the Sweden international’s head, and the former Magpies’ boss looks to be correct.

According to reports from The Telegraph (21 July), Isak has become unsettled at Newcastle, with Liverpool and other clubs circling the 25-year-old.

Isak’s frustrations have begun to grow in the north-east, with a contract dispute being the genesis of the issue. The Swede had been promised a new contract by former co-owner Amanda Staveley in 2024.

Paul Mitchell, who left his role as sporting director last month, decided not to open those talks as Isak had more than three years left on his current deal, and the club’s PSR position made it difficult.

The Newcastle ace’s agent was understandably left insulted by these developments, meaning Liverpool could potentially take advantage of the situation.

Despite this, the Magpies refuse to be bullied into a sale; however, Liverpool News sources state that a £130million bid has been launched for Isak.

FSG must secure Isak’s signature if possible

Although a move for the Newcastle striker would be an expensive one, it is arguably a necessary one that FSG must force through.

Given Mohamed Salah’s age, it is uncertain how much longer the Egyptian can continue to treat the Anfield faithful to world-class performances regularly.

In Isak, Arne Slot would be adding another world-class forward to his frontline who, at 25, is currently at the peak of his powers.

The Swede would also take some of the pressure off Ekitike if the Frenchman also joins Liverpool.

Ekitike would be able to learn from an already established Premier League forward, while still also receiving a fair chunk of playing time, given Isak’s injury record and the likelihood that Slot’s side will go deep into multiple competitions next season.
