Alexander Isak to Liverpool: How would FSG afford mega new transfer?
Liverpool have indulged in a huge spending spree this summer.
The Reds have spent a fee upwards of £100million on Florian Wirtz, £40m on Milos Kerkez, £29.5m on Jeremie Frimpong and are about to sign Hugo Ekitike for a further £79m.
So, it might surprise the football world to hear that they are still interested in signing Alexander Isak for an estimated £120m.
Below, Liverpool News explores how the Reds could afford this without breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Liverpool have been smart with their finances
First off, it should be mentioned that Liverpool attracts a lot of revenue from the Premier League.
As well as TV revenue, Liverpool earned £175m in prize money for finishing as champions. Their new kit deal with Adidas is believed to be worth £60m a year. Anfield has been expanded and is always sold out.
Essentially, they have a lot of money coming in.
On top of that, though, they have been very efficient with their player purchases and sales over the last three years.
Arne Slot only signed Federico Chiesa for £10m last summer. Money was spent on Szoboszlai, Gravenberch and Endo the season before, but a lot of that was covered by the sales of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson to Saudi Arabia.
Long story short, Liverpool have been frugal enough over the last three seasons to be able to splurge this summer, especially when you consider that most big-money signings are paid in instalments.
PSR limits Premier League clubs to £105m of losses over a three-year period.

Liverpool will surely be favourites for domestic and European honours
If Liverpool sign Ekitike and Isak, they will arguably boast the most explosive attack in Europe. On paper, of course.
Arne Slot will still have the task of ensuring that these two can fit into his system. He may be encouraged to sell the likes of Darwin Nunez or Luis Diaz to balance the books before the season starts.
There’s no guarantee that big-money signings will hit the ground running. Liverpool only have to look at Nunez to remind themselves of that. Plenty of the Premier League’s most expensive transfers have flopped.
Player signed | Fee |
Florian Wirtz | £100m |
Milos Kerkez | £40m |
Jeremie Frimpong | £29.5m |
Armin Pesci | £1.5m |
Still, it’s fair to suggest that Liverpool fans will be optimistic about their team’s prospects for the new season, both in the Premier League and Europe. That’s whether Isak signs or not.
The best time to strengthen is when you’re already on top. These transfers will hopefully encourage Slot’s existing players to remain at their scintillating best.
It’s an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan, especially as FSG open the chequebook.
