Timo Werner 2.0 looks like he’s on his way to Liverpool in Arne Slot blunder

Liverpool have not been afraid to splash the cash this summer.

Arne Slot has brought in numerous big names to Anfield over the past few weeks to help them defend their title.

Florian Wirtz is no doubt the biggest signing the Reds have made, with the German international breaking Liverpool’s transfer record.

Slot has no desire to end his spending spree here, with the Merseyside club on the hunt for a new striker.

However, the Liverpool manager could be on the verge of an expensive mistake which could come back to haunt him.

Hugo Ekitike could become next Timo Werner amid imminent Liverpool transfer

All signs point to Hugo Ekitike becoming Liverpool’s next signing.

The Frankfurt striker has had an excellent 18 months in Germany, where he was scoring goals for fun.

Within 64 games, the 23-year-old has smashed in 26 goals and picked up 14 assists.

Therefore, many might think that the Frenchman would be an excellent signing at Anfield. However, there is a big danger that he will become a flop.

Many strikers who have performed well in the Bundesliga have struggled in the Premier League

Timo Werner is the most obvious, with the German striker netting 34 times in all competitions in the 2019/20 season before his arrival at Chelsea.

However, at both the Blues and Spurs, the 29-year-old never hit double-figure goals in the Premier League across three and a half campaigns.

Therefore, it may be a massive transfer blunder that Slot has opted to go for Ekitike over Alexander Isak.

The Newcastle striker is proven in the Premier League, and there would be no doubts that he can repeat his feats at Anfield.

Ekitike will feel the pressure in the Premier League

Unfortunately for Ekitike, the pressure will immediately be on the striker to find success.

Even a few games without a goal at the start of the season will likely result in criticism, especially if one or two big chances are missed.

Therefore, it is vital that the Frenchman finds the net as soon as possible at Anfield to lift this pressure.

Given his clinical nature, Ekitike will no doubt back himself to achieve this and get his Liverpool career off to a dream start.
