Richard Hughes sets deadline for Ekitike deal as Liverpool submit new bid

Hugo Ekitike has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.

Arne Slot has not been afraid to splash the cash this summer, with numerous big names moving to the Merseyside club.

Now, the Dutchman is keen to add Ekitike to his ranks, who has shone at Frankfurt.

Last season, the 23-year-old attacker netted 22 times in all competitions, including four in Europe.

Now, the transfer saga has taken another twist as Slot looks to win the race for the attacker.

Liverpool submit improved £78m bid for Ekitike

Liverpool have been after a new striker all summer as they look to hold onto their Premier League title.

Rumours had circulated that Slot wanted Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, who has impressed in the English top-flight.

However, Ekitike, who is also a target for Newcastle, has also been under consideration, and now, Liverpool have made another approach to sign their target.

According to Sam C via X (19 July), Liverpool have submitted an improved £78 million bid for Ekitike. Discussions are ongoing regarding add-ons.

Richard Hughes and Markus Krosche are aiming to finalise an agreement by this weekend or early next week.

Ekitike could be an inspiring signing from Slot

If Liverpool can get the signing of Ekitike over the line, it would be an excellent addition to the squad.

The Frenchman has already proved himself in Europe and in a top-five league, and could easily make the transition over to England.

On top of this, the signing will likely hurt Newcastle, who have proved themselves to be a formidable threat in the Premier League

Now, Liverpool must ensure that the deal is finalised as soon as possible to allow Ekitike time to adapt to Slot’s tactics.

If the transfer can become official in the next week, it will be a massive boost for the Merseyside club before the start of the season.
