Liverpool ‘to sign Marc Guehi’ as Konate contract latest emerges – Exclusive

Ibrahima Konate’s future at Liverpool is no closer to being resolved.

The Reds star’s current deal is expiring next summer, and the likes of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are eyeing a free transfer.

The Anfield outfit will be keen to avoid another Trent Alexander-Arnold situation, where one of their best players leaves on a free.

Konate formed a formidable duo with Virgil van Dijk last season, featuring 31 times in the Premier League as they won the title.

Liverpool tipped to make Guehi move amid Konate doubts

Konate is reportedly unhappy with the salary that Liverpool have offered in the most recent rounds of negotiations and looks to be heading closer to the exit door.

Iconic commentator Ian Darke would be shocked if the Reds let Konate leave, as it would leave them short in defence.

Speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, he said: “Do you think they will let Konate go? I would be surprised if Real Madrid were in the market for another centre back, they have just signed Huijsen, they have got Rudiger, and Eder Militao will be fit again by Christmas, I would think.

“I’d be a bit surprised if Liverpool were going to sell him as well, he was pretty much a fixture at centre-back, I know he had the odd off-day.

“Liverpool need a centre back, thin in that area with Quansah gone, Gomez injury prone and Konate doubts, Guehi makes sense and he is out of contract next year, so Crystal Palace will sell.”

Guehi is not as good as Konate

Guehi is not at the same level as Konate, it is as simple as that.

Konate is one of the best defenders in world football, his only issue is his fitness, which has been shaky over the past few years.

Konate is significantly better than Guehi in the air and can match him on the ground, and it would be a downgrade if they lost the Frenchman and replaced him with the England ace.

However, he banished those demons last season, and Fenway Sports Group should do everything they can to keep hold of him.
