Liverpool can sign Jeremy Doku 2.0 as Flamengo star shines v Leverkusen

Liverpool must sign players with one eye on the future this summer.

So far, Liverpool have sent a clear statement of intent to the rest of the Premier League with their transfer business so far this summer, and they are far from done yet with weeks remaining until the campaign gets underway.

Arne Slot will be looking to maximise his options for the new campaign, though he must have one eye on signing players who can have a future at Anfield.

With that in mind, the Reds may well have been watching on as Florian Wirtz‘s former club fell to a heavy defeat against Flamengo (18 July), with one player standing out.

Ogundana Shola, remember the name

Bayer Leverkusen fell to a 5-1 defeat against Flamengo’s Under-20 side on Friday night, and several stars kept causing issues all night.

However, none as much so as Ogundana Shola, who ran the show for the hosts after his second-half introduction.

The 20-year-old showcased his blistering pace and trickery on the ball, while also carving out some real opportunities out of nothing, very similar to what Jeremy Doku does at Man City.

Shola featured five times in the Copa Libertadores U20 competition recently, scoring twice and assisting just as many.

The Nigerian has a remarkably bright future ahead of him, and it won’t be long until top European teams start to pick up on his ability, and Liverpool need to ensure that they are one of the first to do so.

Liverpool have some bright prospects at Anfield already

Shola would be a brilliant addition to an already talented youth setup on Merseyside, with the likes of Rio Ngumoha and Josh Sonni-Lambie already showing their potential.

Building for the future is a key aspect for success, and the Reds must have that in the back of their mind for the remainder of the summer window.
