Liverpool ‘cannot get it wrong’ amid Stefan Bajcetic exit latest at Anfield

Stefan Bajcetic was once seen as Liverpool’s next elite midfielder.

The Spanish star broke into Jurgen Klopp‘s first team in the 2022-23 campaign and featured 11 times in the Premier League, with a further eight appearances in other competitions.

He looked composed and capable despite the step up in quality, but he has since endured a horrific amount of bad luck.

The 20-year-old played just three times in the 2023-24 season, with injuries wrecking his campaign, and he struggled on loan at RB Salzburg last time out before finding his feet again at Las Palmas.

Liverpool star Bajcetic attracting interest from Spain

Liverpool face a decision on Bajcetic’s future this summer: Is he a part of their long-term plans or do they let him leave for a decent fee?

A report from ESPN (19 July) claims that Real Betis, Valencia and Rayo Vallecano are all interested in the Reds ace.

However, it does not specify whether they are seeking a permanent deal or a loan.

Slot must make the right decision on Bajcetic

Bajcetic, at the very least, deserves a chance to prove himself to Arne Slot after the hamstring surgery that he underwent in June, rather than just being sent out on loan immediately or sold.

There is a brilliant talent there, and if he can shake the injuries, he could be a real asset for the Premier League champions.

Ryan Gravenberch looked exhausted towards the end of last season, so Bajcetic could be a legitimate option if he can stay fit when he eventually returns to training.

Fenway Sports Group could save millions if the Spaniard can forge his way into Slot’s plans and revive his career on Merseyside.

It would be a remarkable redemption story if he could manage it, but right now it seems unlikely, unless something changes drastically.

It would be a huge shame if he was sold, it would be a mistake, he has a huge ceiling and player development is not linear, it takes time, just look at Harvey Elliott.

He should be given time to get back to his best, and then shine for the Reds, as he did when he first came into the fold.
