Liverpool announce Sam Kerr transfer as Bayern Munich deal agreed

Liverpool Women have confirmed the permanent signing of Bayern Munich Women star Sam Kerr.

Liverpool have announced that Kerr will rejoin the Merseyside club permanently after her loan spell with the Reds last season.

The midfielder joined Bayern Munich in the summer of 2023, making 13 appearances as they won the Frauen-Bundesliga title.

Kerr was useful in a turbulent season for Liverpool, which saw Matt Beard dismissed in February.

Liverpool announce Kerr transfer

Liverpool have been crying out for quality this summer after caretaker coach Amber Whiteley guided them to a seventh-place finish.

With less than two months before the season opener, Liverpool have yet to find a new boss, but are still making preparations on the pitch.

Kerr will add some vital elite experience to the squad; she has made more than 20 UEFA Women’s Champions League appearances across her stints with Bayern, Rangers and Glasgow City.

The midfielder played 11 times for the Reds in the second half of last season and was one of the few positives. Signing Kerr is a boost for Liverpool as they look to put their disappointing 2024/25 campaign behind them.

Liverpool could be in trouble this summer despite Kerr signing

In the last couple of weeks, Liverpool look to have lost their two best players. Taylor Hinds departed following the expiration of her contract at the end of the season, joining European Champions Arsenal.

And Olivia Smith has followed her, with Arsenal reportedly agreeing a record-breaking £1million deal for the Canadian forward who was Liverpool’s top scorer last season.

With the club still managerless, supporters will be getting increasingly worried about how next season could go.

If they have any chance of competing next season, the Reds will need another key player, Marie Hobinger, to stay on Merseyside.
