‘Mo Salah set for final season at Liverpool’, replacement claim made

Liverpool fans could have been adapting to life without Mo Salah in their team this summer.

For a large chunk of last season, the Reds were in danger of Salah leaving the club on a free transfer.

The Egyptian’s contract was due to expire at the end of the season, but Salah eventually signed a new two-year deal and fired Liverpool to the Premier League title. He also won the Premier League Golden Boot with 29 league goals.

It’s all rosy for Salah and Liverpool now. Arne Slot has signed Florian Wirtz to assist him in attack, while Alexander Isak could be arriving too. That would put Liverpool in the driver’s seat to win more silverware this year.

However, a former Liverpool striker still believes this season might be Salah’s last at Anfield.

Heskey says that Salah is set for his final season at Liverpool

Liverpool did everything in their power to persuade Salah to sign a new contract.

However, Emile Heskey believes all that effort will only get him one more season at Liverpool.

In an interview for BestBettingSites.co.uk, Heskey suggested that Salah’s form would dry up and he’d most likely end up leaving Liverpool next summer.

He said: “He’s getting to the age where he will have to slow down sooner or later, but for now his work rate and goalscoring are as special and as spectacular as ever. But at some point it will hit, and we need to have an idea of what comes next.

“There might not be a direct replacement for someone like him.”

Mo Salah is showing no signs of slowing down

Salah has just turned 33. He’ll be 35 at the end of his next contract in two years.

So, it makes logical sense that Liverpool might want to sell him next summer, rather than risk losing him for free a year later.

However, if he plays anywhere near as well as last season, there will surely be no desire at Anfield to let him go.

And it’s not as if he’s showing any signs of slowing down. Last season was his most explosive ever, at least as far as goal contributions were concerned.

Heskey might be speaking from personal experience. He peaked at around 26 years old when he was sold by Liverpool. At age 34, he was playing for Newcastle Jets in Australia.

Salah is a different breed. He’s still one of the fittest in the Liverpool squad. There’s no reason why he can’t hit similar numbers this season, particularly when considering the signings Liverpool are making.
