‘Liverpool to force Newcastle into selling Isak to them as bid submitted’

Liverpool have tested Newcastle United’s resolve with a mammoth bid for Alexander Isak.

The Magpies have been insistent on their stance that the Swede is not for a sale throughout the summer so far, but Liverpool News has exclusively reported that a £130million bid has been made for Isak.

Isak has established himself among the world’s best strikers over the last two seasons, with the 25-year-old scoring 27 goals in all competitions in the last campaign.

Liverpool move is possible

While a world in which Isak holds up a Liverpool shirt is in the realms of possibility, it also hinges on several crucial factors – the largest of which pertains to the striker himself.

Isak has received nothing but love from the Newcastle faithful since his move from Real Sociedad in 2022 – the Swede made himself an icon among Geordies by scoring the goal that won them their first trophy since 1955, against Liverpool.

In theory, the striker has no reason to ruin that relationship by demanding a move away when, at 25, such a switch will still be available next summer, or the summer after.

Isak is Newcastle’s star man

But should Liverpool manage to convince Isak otherwise, Newcastle could be placed in a difficult position.

Running alongside the forward’s situation is Newcastle’s move for French striker Hugo Ekitike, a move said to be targeted to bolster the front-line, not replenish it following a departure.

Liverpool have cleverly placed themselves within that saga also, with the Reds also reportedly due to initiate talks with the 23-year-old’s camp.

That has confronted the Magpies with an ugly scenario. Naturally, Newcastle would choose to press on in their negotiations for Ekitike and refuse Liverpool’s advances for Isak.

But, should Eddie Howe’s number 14 start to demand an exit, that could leave decision-makers at Newcastle in a situation in which an unhappy player remains, while his ideal replacement goes elsewhere.

Isak chances are slim

There are several scenarios in which Newcastle decide that a refusal to sell Isak outweighs all other benefits.

Given the striker’s quality, it’s unlikely the asking fee for his services would be knocked down substantially next summer.

Additionally, several other strikers are on the market and could allow Newcastle to pivot away from Ekitike.

But until Isak’s wishes are known, the possibility remains, and that chance will excite Liverpool fans nonetheless.
