Kieran Maguire shares Nunez PSR update amid big-money Liverpool bid – Exclusive

Darwin Nunez faces an uncertain future at Liverpool after a difficult spell.

The Uruguay international hasn’t managed to find his feet at Anfield since signing for a sizable fee from Benfica back in 2022.

This lack of form has continued under Arne Slot and has resulted in the 26-year-old being a bit-part player in the Premier League title win.

As the summer window progresses, outside noise around a departure continues, especially from a financial perspective, something which Kieran Maguire has shone a light on.

Maguire in Nunez update after £130m bid

It is no doubt an exciting period for the Merseyside outfit as they prepare for a title defence in the league for the first time since 2020.

The expectation surrounding this has only increased with the additions of high-profile signings Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.

Despite this trio setting the Reds back a collective fee in the region of £170million, that sizable spend doesn’t look likely to change anytime soon.

With that being said, sources close to Liverpool News have revealed that a £130m offer has been tabled to Newcastle United for Alexander Isak.

If this move were to go through, it would potentially take the Anfield club’s spending to over £300m for the summer, something which is bound to raise questions when it comes to PSR.

Something which Maguire has been able to debunk exclusively to Liverpool News, as he said: “Liverpool are in a very strong position as PSR assessed over three years. Liverpool have kept their powder dry in recent windows.

Despite this, the financial expert revealed that a sale for Nunez could still be on the cards this summer, adding: “It’s desirable but not essential.

Nunez could make way for Isak at Liverpool

There is no doubt that the signing of the Sweden international from St James’ Park could transform the Reds and take them to an elite level next campaign.

Since signing for the Magpies, the 25-year-old has been electric, netting over 60 goals in black and white stripes, with last year being by far his best.

Having scored the goal to beat Liverpool to the Carabao Cup in March, despite a Federico Chiesa strike, it would be amazing to bring him to Merseyside this summer.

It doesn’t appear that Nunez would have to leave Liverpool to make a deal for Isak work, but if an exit deal could be agreed, it would certainly be a worthwhile move for Slot and Co.
