Liverpool ace set for welcome return vs Preston, plenty of eyes on him

Liverpool will take on Preston North End on Sunday in their first match of the 2025-26 season.

The match takes place at Deepdale and kicks off at 15:00. Several new signings are expected to make their Liverpool debuts in the match.

However, there’s also one returning player who’s likely to attract a lot of attention.

All eyes on Jayden Danns as he returns for Liverpool

Jayden Danns has been tipped to make a big impact during the 2025-26 season.

The young forward made four first-team appearances for Liverpool last season. Danns was then loaned out to Sunderland, but an unfortunate injury stopped him from playing for them.

However, Danns is now back at Anfield and is fit, raring to go, and likely to star against Preston.

Many sources have suggested that Danns could be a candidate to break into the Liverpool team this year.

Darwin Nunez looks set to be sold. Liverpool lost Diogo Jota in tragic circumstances. It will be incredibly expensive for Liverpool to sign a striker with as much experience as these two.

So, that might leave the door open for Danns if he can impress Arne Slot in pre-season.

At the same time, football journalist Alan Nixon reports via his Patreon account (13 July) that several Championship clubs are likely to be monitoring Danns at Deepdale with a view to signing him on loan.

Pre-season friendlies give Danns the perfect chance to show what he can do

Pre-season friendlies are mostly seen as opportunities for players to regain match fitness and new signings to bed into the team.

However, they also provide a chance for academy players to make an impression on their manager.

Slot will have the chance to give minutes to young players without the pressure of having to secure a result in a competitive game.

Danns will have a chance to test himself alongside experienced players like Mo Salah and Florian Wirtz, and hopefully not look too out of place.

The Dutch manager may already have plans for his academy stars, but these pre-season games give them the chance to make an impact and potentially seal their future at Liverpool.

There are high hopes for Danns among Liverpool insiders. All eyes will be on him if he gets on the pitch against Preston.
