Liverpool Women’s best players to watch out for 2025/26 WSL
Liverpool Women face an uncertain future going into next season.
Liverpool are still yet to appoint a manager despite Matt Beard’s dismissal taking place in February, with caretaker coach Amber Whiteley guiding the Reds to a seventh-place finish.
Gareth Taylor appears to be the leading candidate, after leaving Manchester City shortly before the end of the season, but with less than two months before the season opener, the appointment is yet to be made.
However, there remain reasons to be positive and here, Liverpool News looks at them.

Marie Hobinger – midfielder
In the last couple of weeks, Liverpool look to have lost their two best players. Taylor Hinds departed following the expiration of her contract at the end of the season, joining European Champions Arsenal.
And Olivia Smith could join her, with Arsenal reportedly agreeing a record-breaking £1million deal for the Canadian forward who was Liverpool’s top scorer last season.
Therefore, the Reds will take hope that another key player, Marie Hobinger, remains.

Also registering 2.75 key passes every 90 minutes, the 24-year-old has emerged as a key player for Liverpool, and they must ensure she remains on Merseyside next season.
Fuka Nagano – midfielder
With several players having already left on free transfers, Liverpool fans will wait nervously to hear news about the future of Fuka Nagano.
The Reds have been in discussions over fresh terms with the player for some time, with an agreement still hoped for, following the end of her previous contract on 30 June.
Nagano joined Liverpool in 2023 from North Carolina Courage. She has since proved integral to the midfield and is capable of superb, flying challenges before finding incisive passes.
The Japanese international ranks in the 93rd percentile among her positional peers in the top nine competitions for pass completion, with 91.3 per cent of her short passes finding their mark.
Nagato will likely demand ambition before committing her future to Liverpool. Therefore, the Reds need to match this.
Ceri Holland – winger
Ceri Holland is one player who, Liverpool fans can be assured, is staying.
The 27-year-old agreed a contract extension with the club last month, continuing the journey that saw Holland join in 2021.
And the Wales international made history for her country on Wednesday (July 9), when she assisted Jess Fishlock to mark Wales’ first-ever goal at a major tournament.
Holland is a constant danger for her opposing defender, and can often be seen skipping past them.
When compared to her positional peers in the top nine competitions, the winger ranks in the 99th percentile for successful take-ons, 98th percentile for take-ons attempted, and the 99th percentile for carries into the penalty area.
Holland’s staggering stats go to prove how important she is to ensuring Liverpool continue to carry danger through their wide areas, despite the potential loss of Smith.
Fans of the Reds will hope the last month’s events will spur decision-makers into action at St Helens, with the danger of a relegation battle looming large if no action is taken.
