Mohamed Salah ‘assessed by medical staff’ as Liverpool star returns to Melwood

Mohamed Salah is among a group of Liverpool players who have returned to Melwood on Tuesday (8 July).

The Reds’ stars have begun to slowly filter back in for pre-season, having been allowed additional time off following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva last week.

It is currently unclear whether Liverpool’s friendly with Preston will go ahead on Sunday (13 July) or whether the opening clash of their pre-season campaign will be delayed until a later date.

The entire city will be mourning the tragic loss, and the players’ return to the club will likely be a step in the right direction for them mentally.

Salah has been assessed after reporting to Melwood

Jota’s funeral on Saturday (5 July) was attended by several members of the Liverpool squad, and the club’s decision to delay the start of pre-season will have provided the group with the opportunity to gather their thoughts.

Several members of the squad have returned to Melwood today, which has had its entrance lined with flowers and flags in tribute to Jota and his brother.

Salah was one of the returnees, while the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Andrew Robertson and Conor Bradley were also part of the contingent.

Those who have been present today have been expected to undergo fitness tests and gym work, as the medical staff assess their fitness levels ahead of their return to action.

Salah will play a key role in the Liverpool squad’s return

Liverpool’s return to normality will certainly not be easy, given that they have lost someone who was such a happy and popular figure around the club.

However, as Arne Slot’s men prepare to get back on the training pitch, experienced figures like Salah will play a crucial role within the squad.

The 33-year-old, alongside other veteran leaders like Virgil van Dijk and Alisson, will be crucial in ensuring the togetherness remains in the squad and will likely play a major role in what will be a difficult period for every player.

The more established figures within the group will be needed to help guide the younger players through a situation that no player would ever expect to face during their career.

Salah’s influence has been seen time and again on a footballing level, but now the Egyptian will likely be a major help on a human level.
