Exclusive: Harvey Elliott transfer clause emerges at Liverpool as expert reacts

Liverpool star Harvey Elliott turned heads with his performances for England at the UEFA Under‑21 European Championship.

The midfielder finished the competition with five goals in six matches and was named the Player of the Tournament as the Three Lions defended their crown.

Elliott was praised for his performances away from Liverpool after a season in which he only made two Premier League starts.

There has been talk of an Anfield exit for Elliott this summer, and his international performances are bound to have been noticed.

Liverpool playing a clever game in transfer market

Wolves are one of the clubs that have been linked with Elliott, with reports that Liverpool value him at around £40million.

Moreover, there has been talk of a buyback clause for the 22-year-old, or a straight £50million to land him fully without that.

Now, football finance expert Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Liverpool News, has weighed in on a potential buyback option.

“We talk about these unique little trends that we see sometimes happening with transfers, and this is a good example,” he said.

“You’re almost giving clubs an opportunity to hedge their bets, and it’s within the negotiation framework again, there’s an enticement opportunity that you might pay a little bit more or you might get a little bit back.

“You are looking at it through the lens of negotiation, but we are starting to see a few clubs go down that road, particularly with younger players who then have a higher ceiling potentially in the future.

“It’s a smart way to do business as well.

“Ultimately, you are trying to look at ways you can innovate within the dealmaking world, and there’s an art to negotiation that shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Anfield club in win-win position with Elliott

Given Elliott’s recent exploits, Liverpool are in a strong position when it comes to the Englishman’s future.

If the Reds do decide to cash in, then they will likely be able to generate a substantial fee for his services.

On the other hand, the former Fulham man is a player with vast potential and could have a future at Anfield.

This one could have plenty of turns between now and the end of the window.
