‘BBC must be held to account amid disgraceful Diogo Jota coverage’

Liverpool and the football world are still mourning the tragic death of Diogo Jota.

The Reds forward passed away with his brother, Andre Silva, after a car crash in the Zamora region of Spain on Thursday (3 July).

The majority of the Anfield squad are in Portugal for his funeral on Saturday, and the likes of Phil Thompson and Jurgen Klopp have paid tribute to the former Wolves star.

British media must do better after Jota death

The Daily Mail have already angered Liverpool supporters with their disgusting coverage of the forward’s death, showing images of the crash scene on several occasions.

The BBC and Sky Sports News are the latest organisations to disgrace themselves in the aftermath of the tragedy, as they blatantly disregard the family’s wishes for privacy during the most difficult period of their lives.

The former quoted a source from the family, saying: “We’re told the family wants the ceremony to be private, and that yesterday’s wake, when hundreds flocked to Gondomar to pay their respects, was too intense.”

However, they continue to photograph the mourners at the funeral and share the scenes with the world on a live blog.

Jota’s family and friends should be left to privacy

Jota’s friends and family should be allowed to mourn their loved ones in peace, rather than having a camera shoved in their face constantly.

At an already extremely distressing time, it will not do them any favours and help ease their pain of losing two family members in such a tragic way and at such a young age.

Arne Slot‘s side has already confirmed that pre-season will be delayed after the 28-year-old’s passing, to give the players time to deal with their grief.

There has been speculation that the Reds could retire his number 20 shirt, and that would be a beautiful gesture, but it is too early to think about that.

Right now, his loved ones and teammates should be given privacy and allowed to deal with their grief together, without the constant coverage and disregard of their wishes.

It is a damning indictment of the state of the media in this country right now, despite being a very prominent Liverpool star, that does not justify the disgraceful scenes that we are seeing.
