Tsimikas and Endo share Diogo Jota tributes after Liverpool star’s tragic death

Liverpool players have been sharing their tributes to Diogo Jota after the 28-year-old and his brother, Andre Silva, tragically passed away in a road traffic accident.

Spanish police confirmed the crash had taken place in Northern Spain in the early hours of Thursday (3 July) morning.

Liverpool expressed their shock and devastation following the news, requesting privacy for the families of both men.

Jota had shared images of his wedding day just days before, celebrating the marriage to his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.

Wataru Endo and Kostas Tsimikas share touching memories

Tributes have poured in from present and former teammates, colleagues, friends, coaches and fans over the last 24 hours.

Jota began his career in Portugal, eventually moving to Wolves in 2017 to play under Nuno Espirito Santo.

It was there where his talent came to the fore, the winger making a name for himself as an insatiable goal-threat, with a ruthless finish to match.

Jota caught the eye of Liverpool, and the forward completed a £41million move to Liverpool in 2020 to play under Jurgen Klopp.

The Portuguese goalscorer would thrive under the German, eventually winning the Premier League with the Reds in 2025 when Klopp had departed to be replaced by Arne Slot.

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas also arrived at Anfield in the summer of 2020, and took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to his teammate and friend.

“We’ve moved to the club the same period. We were the new boys in the city. We’ve shared and celebrated some of our best moments of our careers together,” Tsimikas wrote.

“Before one of our last ones you’ve said to me ‘You cross, I score’ and that’s what happened. We laughed and we talked about lots.

“You were a special player, a special guy, a true legend Diogo. You’ll always be remembered and always be loved.

“My heart and my prayers are with your Rute, your boys, your little girl, your family and everyone who loved and waited for you both to go home. You and your brother André will be missed forever.”

Wataru Endo, who arrived at Liverpool in 2023, shared his emotions in another post.

“Jots,I still can’t believe it. I don’t want to believe it. What a great player, what a great person you were,” he wrote.

“You will be remembered forever. My thoughts are with your wife, kids and all family and friends.

“Love you Jots. Rest in peace Diogo and Andre. You will never walk alone.”

Jota’s impact in Liverpool will be timeless

Liverpool’s time to remember Jota for the brilliant impact he had as a footballer will come over the following years.

But for now, the city will mourn the loss of a man who radiated genuine goodness to every person he came into contact with.

Jota and Silva will live on in the minds of their families, and those fortunate enough to be touched by their time on the pitch.
