Daily Mail ‘owe Liverpool an apology’ with ‘tasteless’ coverage of Diogo Jota’s death
Liverpool supporters and people all around the world have been mourning the tragic death of Diogo Jota.
Jota was involved in a fatal car accident in Zamora along with his brother André Silva, who played for FC Penafiel.
The Anfield flag was raised to half mast as Liverpool paid tribute to a player who has been integral to the Merseyside club’s success.
While most of the reporting of Jota’s passing was positive, the Daily Mail must be called out for its coverage of the event.

Daily Mail should be held to account for coverage of Jota’s death
Jürgen Klopp was one of several linked to Liverpool to pay tribute to the Portuguese on his Instagram account.
Several ex-Liverpool players, such as Phil Thompson, also shared their condolences on their social media accounts.
While there was an influx of positive messages sent out amid the heartbreaking news, the Daily Mail took a different approach.
On the Mail Online’s website, the publication opted to post the headline ‘Jota Twist of Fate’ underneath images of the wreckage from Jota’s car.
Indeed, several of their articles lead with images of the wreckage, which has quite rightly angered people.
While the publication has always aired on the side of controversy, surely the tragic death of two young men does not warrant such appalling coverage.
Where is the sincerity for the brothers? How would their families feel upon looking at such awful images? Where is the logic in the Daily Mail’s decision?
If they are going for ‘shock factor’ then they well and truly have succeeded, but they have tarnished their reputation to aplomb.
If this tragic accident affected the person who sanctioned such ill-chosen images, then I wonder if they had done the same?
All in all, it is a damning portrayal of incident by the publication and one that should not be forgiven anytime soon.

Jota will live long in the memory of Liverpool fans
While it is hard to sum up the words after such a cruel event, there is no doubt that Jota has left his mark at Anfield.
The forward joined from Wolves five years ago for a fee of £41million and went on to make 182 appearances for the Reds.
Jota clinched the Premier League title last season to accompany the FA Cup and two League Cups he won in the North West.
His impact will not be forgotten at Liverpool and it will take some time to come to terms with what has happened.
