John Aldridge leads tributes as Liverpool star Diogo Jota dies aged 28

Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota has sadly passed away in a car crash in Spain alongside his brother, Andre Silva.

Liverpool’s official website (3 July) has confirmed that the pair passed this morning, in what is utterly devastating news.

Jota had joined Liverpool from Wolves in 2020 and played 182 times at the Merseyside club, netting 65 goals.

In this time, he helped the Reds win the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Aldridge sends tribute as heartbreaking Jota passing is confirmed

The death of Jota and his brother has no doubt shocked the footballing world.

The 28-year-old only got married two weeks ago in what looked to be an exciting new chapter in his life.

With the news now confirmed, tributes have been pouring out, with multiple stars in the footballing world giving their thoughts and prayers to his family in this difficult time.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has led these, as he took to X (3 July) to react to the heartbreaking news.

He said: “I can’t say the way I feel at the moment I can’t get my head around it!

“It’s like a part of my family has passed away. Absolutely gutted, all our thoughts are with the family. YNWA”

This was soon followed up by Premier League legends Gary Neville and Alan Shearer, who were both saddened about the passing.

Neville put: “That is heartbreaking news on Diogo Jota and his brother. All my love and best wishes to his family.”

Shearer posted: “Heartbreaking.”

Thoughts go to Jota’s family in this difficult time

The recent news is proof of how fragile life is and how things can change in an instant.

Hopefully, Jota’s family are receiving the support they need in this difficult time, in what was no doubt a horrific shock.
