The football world is continuing to reel from the shocking news that the Portugal international has passed away alongside his brother, Andre Silva.

A traffic accident in Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora, ended with emergency services confirming the news of two fatalities at around 12.35am.

Nunez gutted as Liverpool confirm Jota death

This is far from a usual situation, and as a result, it has been hard to know how to react for many, given how much of a shock the news was.

Many will now hug their loved ones that bit tighter, knowing that even just 10 days after his wedding, the forward could pass away.

This leaves behind a grieving family, his new wife and their three kids, as well as his parents, who have now lost two sons.

The emotion has also been felt strongly by those associated with the Reds, with legends like Phil Thompson sharing their condolences already.

Now, Nunez has shared his reaction to the horrific news, showcasing just how close he was to Jota as a friend as well as a Liverpool teammate.

Taking to Instagram (3 July), the Uruguay international said: “There are no words of comfort for so much pain. I will always remember you with your smile, as a good companion on and off the field.

“I send all my strength to his family, from where he is, I’m sure he will always be with you, especially his wife and three children.”

Liverpool must support Nunez after Jota devestation

There is no doubt that the 26-year-old has struggled for regular form since signing at Anfield for a sizable fee from Benfica.

This has seen Nunez strongly linked with a Napoli move, although now it is the duty of the Reds to stand by the forward and help him through this situation.

Losing a friend will be extremely difficult at the best of times, never mind a teammate whom you spend so much time on a daily basis.

Liverpool will continue to reel from the loss of Jota and have to have support measures in place to help those who are impacted by this horrendous news.
