‘Liverpool make statement’ as McCoist reacts to Diaz to Bayern Munich development

Liverpool have received an approach from Bayern Munich to sign Luis Diaz.

The Colombia international is coming off the back of a largely positive campaign, which culminated in him lifting the Premier League at Anfield.

This saw the 28-year-old have his most productive season in front of goal for the Reds, sparking the interest of the Bundesliga giants.

As a result, the L4 club had a decision to make, one which has left Ally McCoist impressed, moving deeper into the summer window.

McCoist reacts to Diaz to Bayern Munich update

Having parted ways with Leroy Sane at the end of his contract, the Bavarians are in need of alternative winger options for the new season.

As a result, it is little surprise that the ex-Porto man would be of interest to Vincent Kompany’s side ahead of their title defence.

This has seen Bayern Munich make an initial approach for Diaz on Merseyside, one which has instantly been turned down by the Reds [Sky Sports, 2 July].

Liverpool have insisted that the winger is not for sale and have every intention to keep hold of him, even with the addition of Florian Wirtz.

It is fair to say that this has gone down well with Alan Brazil live on talkSPORT (2 July, 08:06am) as the Merseysiders continue their excellent summer of business.

He said: “On that Luis Diaz news, Liverpool have shown an intent to keep him by rejecting that approach from Bayern Munich. I like Diaz me.”

McCoist was in full agreement as he added: “I think it’s a statement from Liverpool to keep a hold of him. They’ve done their business early, fair play.

“I think if they keep Diaz, what a statement that makes. I still think if Liverpool went out and bought a right, proper, out and out goal scorer, they’d be nearly unstoppable.”

Liverpool want to keep Diaz

It makes total sense that Arne Slot would want to keep hold of the attacker moving into his second campaign in charge.

This is especially the case when you consider he contributed to 23 goals in all competitions, while sitting second only to Mohamed Salah for Premier League goal contributions in red.

This shows exactly why Liverpool are so keen to keep Diaz, despite what is likely to be strong interest from Bayern this summer.
