Harvey Elliott sends emotional message as Liverpool exit confirmed

Harvey Elliott looks set to leave Liverpool after almost six years with the Merseyside club.

Elliott demonstrated his extraordinary potential as he picked up the Player of the Tournament award for his international performances as England won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

However, the playmaker did not have the same impact for Liverpool last season, only managing two starts in the Premier League, both coming after the title was sealed.

As such, Elliott is set to leave the Reds in pursuit of more game time and has had no shortage of suitors from the Premier League and abroad.

Elliott sends emotional message to Jarell Quansah

Liverpool have already spent handsomely this summer, especially on acquiring Florian Wirtz for a club record fee.

The Reds will be looking to recoup some of their outlay by selling their out-of-favour players, and have already set a £40million asking price for Elliott [talkSport].

One player who has already been sold is Jarell Quansah, who has moved to Bayer Leverkusen for an initial £30million fee.

The Liverpool academy graduate rose through the ranks on Merseyside before making his first team debut in 2021, and went on to make 58 senior appearances for the Reds.

Quansah posted a heartfelt goodbye message on Instagram (2 July), and Elliott, who is the same age as his former teammate, commented under the post, telling Quansah that he will miss him.

Elliott could be better suited to a move abroad

Elliott’s qualities as a creative attacking midfielder with an aptitude for scoring goals have never been in doubt, especially under Jurgen Klopp’s tutelage.

However, he has struggled with the Premier League’s physicality at times and has often performed better on the European stage, as highlighted by his recent exploits with the Young Lions.

The talented midfielder will no doubt have his fans within England’s top flight, but his technical qualities could provide better results in a foreign league, with his skillset particularly suited to Spanish football.

Whether foreign clubs could match Liverpool’s asking price remains to be seen, but if Elliott receives such an offer, it should be one he seriously considers to maximise his potential.
