Liverpool fans ‘will reluctantly respect Ferdinand’ over new transfer claim
Liverpool’s signing of Florian Wirtz looks likely to be one of the biggest stories of the summer in the Premier League.
The Reds went back and forth in negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen for several weeks, before FSG ultimately got their mega-money pursuit over the line.
Wirtz seems destined to pick up a significant wage at Anfield, but should provide a huge upgrade to Arne Slot’s squad as the Dutchman prepares to oversee the defence of their domestic crown next term.
The 22-year-old has already established himself as one of European football’s finest creators, and he should be ready to take the Premier League by storm after several years of strong production in the Bundesliga.

Ferdinand makes claim on Liverpool’s ‘process and vision’
Liverpool’s signing of Wirtz has prompted plenty of discussion, and now Rio Ferdinand has been the latest to weigh in on the move to secure the German’s signature.
The former Manchester United man is not a popular figure at all among the Reds’ fanbase, but even the most diehard supporter will surely be forced to respect him after his latest claim.
The 46-year-old presents a transfer show called Today’s Transfer Talk on YouTube, and in Thursday’s (26 June) edition, the pundit heaped praise on Liverpool’s ability to sell themselves to Wirtz and his agent.
Ferdinand cited the likely clarity provided by the champions as being a major part of their ability to convince Wirtz to join.
“I think what’s not being talked about enough is Liverpool’s ability to go and get a player that City were after, Bayern Munich were after and reportedly Real Madrid were also after. And Liverpool have come out on top in that,” Ferdinand said.
“I can see it so clearly at the club right now; I can see their whole process and their vision – it’s so clear – and as a player, that’s what you want when you walk into the club and they’re pitching the project to you.
“I can imagine Wirtz coming out of that meeting with Slot and saying ‘don’t take any calls from any of those other clubs, I’m going here’.”
Wirtz deal is fantastic for Liverpool
Despite calls from some quarters that the Wirtz signing is not great value for money at Liverpool, it’s hard to see a world where it doesn’t turn into a fantastic deal for the Reds.

They may have paid a staggering £116million for his services, but there can be no doubt about the fact that they are getting their hands on somebody who has the potential to become a bona fide megstar.
The German’s value should skyrocket even further over the course of his five-year deal, and if everything goes to plan, he could be a star at Anfield for several years to come.
With the likes of Mohammed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson likely beginning to near the twilight of their careers, the Merseysiders would need a new superstar to worship in a few years, and Wirtz looks set to be that man.
