‘Hughes masterclass to net Liverpool millions’ as Carvalho sale details emerge

Fabio Carvalho’s move to Liverpool never worked out.

The Portuguese starlet joined the Reds in 2022 but only made 21 appearances across his stay at Anfield.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp favoured loaning out the winger, with the 22-year-old enjoying loan spells at RB Leipzig and Hull City.

However, once Arne Slot arrived, the Dutchman chose to sell Carvalho to Fulham, where he remains to this day.

Liverpool to profit as Carvalho rumours emerge

Liverpool have already spent big this transfer window.

As Slot prepares to defend his Premier League title, the Reds have not wasted any time reinforcing their squad, with numerous big names being brought into the Merseyside club.

As a result, stars have been linked away from Anfield as Liverpool look to balance their books.

Luis Diaz is linked with a move to Barcelona this summer after the Colombian’s impressive campaign.

On top of this, Darwin Nunez looks likely to leave Liverpool ahead of the upcoming season.

However, the Reds may be able to bring in extra cash through Carvalho.

The star’s brother has confirmed that Benfica are interested in signing the 22-year-old.

It has been widely reported that Liverpool hold a 17.5 per cent sell-on clause.

This is no doubt a masterclass from sporting director Richard Hughes, as this could see the Reds potentially net millions.

As a result, Slot may be able to keep hold of a star he might otherwise have to sell or even make another signing before the window closes.

Sell-on clauses the way forward for Liverpool

For Liverpool, it is always going to be difficult to bring in substantial funds for some of their fringe players.

However, Hughes recent actions have proved that sell-on clauses should be the way forward in their transfer strategy.

While Carvalho’s original £27.5m departure fee may have seemed low given the potential he has, the money brought in from the sell-on clause will make Liverpool another hefty profit.

Hopefully the transfer now goes through to allow the Anfield club more freedom in the transfer market.
