Mamardashvili told he ‘should have joined Chelsea’ after incredible Liverpool latest
Giorgi Mamardashvili will arrive at Liverpool in the coming days.
The former Valencia goalkeeper will finally link up with Arne Slot at Anfield after the two sides agreed a £29million deal last summer.
He kept eight clean sheets and conceded 48 goals in 34 appearances in La Liga last season, with a huge performance against Real Madrid in which he saved a penalty.
Alisson is not getting any younger, and the Reds have secured an eventual replacement, who happens to be one of the best talents in world football.

Liverpool should be excited by Mamardashvili
Liverpool’s current number one, Alisson, is widely regarded as one of the best in the world.
Former Aston Villa striker Darren Bent believes that Mamardashvili could earn a starting spot immediately, though, as he has been impressed with what he has seen.
Speaking on talkSPORT (26 June, 17:06), he said: “There is an argument that either of them could be number one because Mamardashvili is incredible.”
His fellow host Andy Goldstein asked why Bent rates the Georgian so highly, and he replied: “For starters, he is massive, shot-stopping unbelievable, comes from crosses, good with his feet.”
Goldstein then questioned the 24-year-old’s decision, wondering why he would settle for a number two spot, saying: “Why has he gone to Liverpool as a number two? He could have gone to Chelsea and been number one?”
Mamadashvili has his work cut out at Liverpool
It would take a gargantuan change of heart from Slot to displace the Brazilian between the sticks, so the Georgian will have a task on his hands to earn a starting berth.
There had been speculation that he would be sent out on loan for a second time after his arrival from Valencia, but that seems to have died down recently, and he may be set to stay at Anfield.
Stats | Alisson (Premier League) | Mamardashvili (La Liga) |
Matches | 28 | 34 |
Goals conceded | 29 | 48 |
Clean sheets | 9 | 8 |
Goals prevented | 2.14 | -1.48 |
Mamardashvili must have a significant amount of faith in his abilities, as Goldstein said, there are top clubs like Chelsea who are actively seeking a number one, and he could have gone there instead and been starting straight away.
The Reds clearly believe that he is the long-term successor to Alisson, as they let Caoimhin Kelleher, who was very highly rated on Merseyside, depart to secure regular first-team football with Brentford.
He will probably get some game time as Alisson has suffered from injuries on an increasingly regular basis in the last few seasons.
The young keeper may just have to bide his time before he can make the number one spot his own in L4, but when he gets the chance, he will surely take it with both gloves.
