Florian Wirtz leads the way in near £200m Liverpool spend to date

Liverpool have been remarkably active early in the summer window, making a clear statement of intent with several significant acquisitions.

The most eye-catching arrival is undoubtedly Florian Wirtz, the highly-rated German international attacking midfielder from Bayer Leverkusen, in a deal that could reportedly rise to £116million with add-ons.

Wirtz reunites with his former Leverkusen teammate, right-back Jeremie Frimpong, who joined for £29.5m, providing a dynamic option on the flank.

On the opposite flank, Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth has also been announced for a fee of around £40m.

Adding further depth, young goalkeeper Armin Pecsi has also arrived from Puskas Akademia for £1.5m.

These four confirmed signings already represent a substantial outlay of around £187m.

On the departure front, Liverpool have also overseen some major exits.

Long-serving right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has completed a move to Real Madrid for £8.3m.

Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has made a switch to Brentford for an initial £12.5m, potentially rising to £18m, as he looks for regular first-team football.

Defender Nat Phillips has also moved to West Brom for an undisclosed fee.

Additionally, young goalkeepers Vitezslav Jaros (to Ajax) and Harvey Davies (to Crawley Town) have secured loan moves after signing new contracts, ensuring their continued development.

These outgoings have generated over £20m in income, but the overall net spend remains significant as the club invests heavily in new talent.

Alexander Isak remains dream target for Liverpool

The transfer rumour mill continues to churn intensely around Anfield, with speculation heavily focused on attacking reinforcements, particularly a new striker.

With Darwin Nunez’s future looking increasingly uncertain amid links to Napoli, Liverpool are reportedly in the market for a prolific goalscorer.

The most prominent name currently being linked is Newcastle United’s Swedish international Alexander Isak.

Reports suggest Liverpool consider Isak a “dream” target and are even prepared to sanction further player sales, including potentially Nunez, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, to fund a massive £150m bid for him.

Isak enjoyed a sensational season for Newcastle, scoring 27 goals in 42 appearances.

Another striker whose name has surfaced is Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres.

While initial reports suggested Liverpool were not pursuing him, conflicting information from Portugal indicates the Reds have made enquiries about the £68m-rated forward, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

Beyond strikers, there are whispers about other positions. Lyon winger Malick Fofana has also been linked, with suggestions that Liverpool’s chief scout Barry Hunter is a keen admirer.

After the recent news of their unfortunate relegation, this could mean a cut-price deal is available.

Marc Guehi another on Liverpool’s transfer radar

Based on the latest reports and the immediate needs of the squad, Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi appears to be the most likely next player to be officially announced as a Liverpool signing.

With Jarell Quansah reportedly on the verge of a move to Bayer Leverkusen and speculation around Ibrahima Konate’s contract, strengthening the central defence is a clear priority for Slot.

Guehi, valued significantly by Palace, is a proven Premier League defender with leadership qualities and strong ball-playing ability, making him an ideal fit for Liverpool’s style.

Reports suggest that Liverpool are now intensifying their pursuit, and with the window in full swing, a significant move for a top-tier defender like Guehi seems imminent to solidify Slot’s backline.
