Liverpool ‘new priority’ becomes clear after Hinds decision made

Liverpool Women face a daunting summer ahead of the new Women’s Super League campaign.

The men’s team have signed Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz for a combined total of around £130million, but the Totally Wicked Stadium outfit has different priorities.

While Virgil van Dijk and co lifted the Premier League title, their female counterparts finished in seventh place and did not have a similar kind of success after an impressive fourth place the season before.

The permanent manager position is still not sorted out after Matt Beard was sacked in February, and they are yet to tie down key players to new contracts.

Hinds to leave Liverpool on a free transfer

One positive for Liverpool supporters is that Ceri Holland, who was recent called up to the Wales squad for the Women’s European Championships, will remain on Merseyside.

The Reds confirmed on Tuesday (25 June) that the 27-year-old has committed her future to the club after signing a new deal before heading to the tournament.

Holland has made over 100 appearances for the L4 outfit, with 23 of those coming last season as she notched four assists.

However, Taylor Hinds who has also made over 100 appearances is set to depart when her deal expires on 30 June.

A report from The Guardian (25 June) claims that the 26-year-old will join Champions League winners Arsenal, rather than stay in L4.

Nagano extension must be next for Liverpool

Liverpool must not take their foot off the pedal after Hinds’ exit was announced, they must do everything that they can to keep their other stars around.

Fuka Nagano is out of contract this summer and Manchester United are reportedly planning a swoop for her services.

Liverpool had a poor league season.

Nagano has emerged as a star since her move from North Carolina Courage in 2023, making 52 appearances for the Reds.

With Hinds heading for the exit, it may be hard to convince Nagano with question marks over the future of interim boss Amber Whiteley and the direction of the team next year.

If the Reds are to reach the desired level in the WSL and start qualifying for Europe and winning titles again as they did under Beard in 2013 and 2014 in his first spell in charge, they need to keep their best players, it is non-negotiable.

Fenway Sports Group need to invest and do more to help the Women’s team be at the level that they should be.

Olivia Smith is another star who is attracting a massive amount of interest but Whiteley’s side are confident of keeping her, since she is contracted for another two years.
